Learn About Our Partners For The Week, The Breasties!

Our Relationship To The Breasties

Ovarian cancer awareness month is this month, and breast cancer awareness month starts next week. And while our company has always promoted taking care of yourself and putting yourself first, our focus is typically more specific to self love and self care than health education and advocacy.

So why the sudden partnership with The Breasties?

Within the last year, we connected with Paige More (@paige_previvor), a fellow tribe member and co-founder of The Breasties, and learned that there was quite of bit of overlap between our world and her world. Her role with The Breasties is to empower women to take charge of their health through education, to host events to foster a community of women that supports each other emotionally, and to remind women after experiencing intensive surgeries how strong they are and how beautiful their scars are.

As a company that is constantly looking for ways to empower women to put themselves (including their health) first, to build a community of strong women who support one another, and to encourage women to embrace themselves and their bodies wholly, we could not help but feel connected to The Breasties and their mission.

The Numbers: How Breast Cancer Affects Women

In addition to feeling aligned, as a company that focuses on women, we could not help but feel called to contribute in some way, shape, or form given the stats:

  • 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes.
  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
  • Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women.
  • On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Numbers: How Ovarian Cancer Affects Women

Although ovarian cancer is far less common than breast cancer, ovarian cancer has far lower survival rates than other cancers that affect women. The relative five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer is 46.5 percent.

About The Breasties

The Breasties is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that connects young women affected by breast and ovarian cancer (survivors, previvors, and caregivers) via free wellness, social, and educational events.

100% of donations go toward their mission, and provide essential funding that allows them to host events, retreats, and resources for education and support.

We are so excited to partner with The Breasties, to have the opportunity to give back in a way that is authentic to and aligned with who we are, to support a local tribe member, and - more than anything - to empower women through education and community.
