Lately, everyone is going crazy over this self love pinky ring: Zooey Deschanel, Lucy Hale, Amber Rose, Cosmopolitan and now us, the ladies behind MentalScoops!

You? Maybe. Me. Always.

This week, we are honored to have had the opportunity to chat with the ladies behind “pinky ring revolution”:

Tell us about the “pinky ring revolution” or “choose yourself”movement. Is there a reason why the pinky ring is made to be comparable to an engagement ring?
Fred + Far: My personal pinky ring revolution started in July of 2015. As a working mom of twins, I was feeling burnt out and having a hard time making space for my self in my own life. Jewelry has always been something very personal and symbolic to me, so I decided to buy a ring and wear it as a daily reminder that I should be as important in my life, as everyone else is. I chose myself and transformed my life for the better.
I chose to create the ring for my pinky because it is a finger I’ve never worn a ring on before. It is as overlooked as women can be in their own lives. It felt very powerful to me to take a traditional symbol of commitment to someone else (big bold engagement rings) and say, “This time, I’m choosing myself.” I still wear my engagement ring proudly, and these two rings are not mutually exclusive. Because loving yourself, makes you better able to love someone else.
My best friend Samira and I launched the company in early 2016 to help women around the world choose themselves as well. We currently offer only one product, The Self Love Pinky Ring, but plan to expand with other products soon that inspire self love and self care.
What have you found to be useful in finding yourself and loving yourself again?
Fred + Far: The most helpful shift I’ve achieved when it comes to finding and loving myself is making it a daily habit. I check in with myself daily. I plan activities and experiences daily that feed my soul, and I have eliminated things and people that were toxic. In the past, it was really easy to get distracted and sacrifice myself for whatever competing priority happened to show up. Now that I have my ring, I am more accountable to myself. I see it and ask myself, “Have I taken care of myself today?” “Have I checked in with myself today?” “Am I okay, and if not, what can I do to go to bed today feeling a little more whole?”
I ____, pinky promise To honor myself. To choose myself. To remember myself. On a daily basis.
Who inspires and motivates you when you’re down?

Fred + Far: We are lucky to live in a very connected world. I am inspired by the incredible women around me, like my business partner Samira, my mother, and especially the global community of women we are building through Fred and Far who are boldly loving themselves and sharing their stories. In terms of public figures, there are so many women who embody the message we are hoping to spread, like Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Blake Lively, Meryl Streep, Brene Brown, Sheryl Sandberg and Elizabeth Gilbert.

What are some struggles you’ve experienced as women in start up?
Fred + Far:The struggles we’ve experienced aren’t unique to our gender. Anytime you start a company there are unexpected issues that present themselves. We are not jewelers by trade, so there was a big learning curve there, and we are still learning every day. We are also so grateful to have grown so quickly. With the growth we’ve had  to create and implement new systems to better serve the women around the world who are counting on us.
How has your femininity attributed to your success?

All creation is from a seed of emotion and creativity. Being in touch with my feminine power allows me to be rooted in the very emotion that connects with people. Without that connection, what we create might not resonate well and may ultimately fail. The connection with our femininity is vital to success, not just in this project but in general.

What would be one thing you tell your younger self?

Give yourself the love you’re so desperately waiting to receive (and often from all the wrong places).

We want to thank Melody and Samira for creating the Self Love Pinky Ring. Better order early because orders are backing up for these successful women!
